PALM COAST, Fla. -- A newly released federal National Climate Assessment lists parts of Flagler County as the most vulnerable to sea level rise, extreme heat events, and other extreme weather events.
The 1,200 page report was commissioned to “show what is actually happening and what it means for peoples’ lives, livelihoods, and future,” and states that climate change is already affecting the American people.
According to the assessment, the average U.S. temperature has increased by about 1.5°F since 1895 and sea levels have already risen on average 5 to 8 inches over past 50 years.
Direct policy recommendations were not made in the report but the authors do urge policy makers to craft local solutions to emerging climatic issues.
