PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- Seventy-two teens from 18 countries are teeing off in Ponte Vedra today. All are vying to be the Gate American Junior Cup Champion.
"I would like to be in the rankings in the front end, yeah," Isabell Gasba, from Germany, said.
But it's not going to be easy.
"It's hard because everybody is good here for this tournament," Csilla Rozsa, from Hungary, said.
Not just good. The best. And although there are junior tournaments around the world, the competition in Ponte Vedra is staging a milestone across the globe.
"Actually the first mark in history for world ranking," Tom Burnett said. He owns Tom Burnett's Golf Academy. "There's officially no world ranking and we're the first one to get it here."
The tournament is free and open to the public Tuesday through Thursday at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, 200 Ponte Vedra Blvd., starting at 9 a.m. each day.
