JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A crash on Interstate 295 at San Jose Boulevard shut down two lanes for about three hours this morning.

The crash happened just before 5 a.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of an SUV struck the center guardrail for unknown reasons. The SUV flipped and the driver and two passengers were thrown from the vehicle.

Jacob Thomas Lin-Justiniano, 22, is hospitalized at Orange Park Medical Center with critical injuries.  Ronnie Keoni Powell, 22, is hospitalized at Orange Park Medical Center with critical injuries.  Fiona Castor, 21, is hospitalized at Baptist South with serious injuries.  Qiante Royale Jackson, 23, is at Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries.

The FHP says charges are pending.  Authorities say alcohol is under investigation as a possible factor.  No one in the car had on their seatbelts.

After the crash, a Blue Bell Ice Cream truck tried to avoid the SUV, swerved out of the way, and also overturned. The driver of that vehicle was unharmed.

Two lanes of the West Beltway of Interstate 295 southbound were closed for about three hours as FHP worked to clean up the mess.

FHP isn't saying yet what caused the driver of the SUV to crash into the guardrail, but they did say the fog was thick on the roadway this morning, which could have been a factor.

All lanes of Interstate 295 are back open.
