Two arrested in Bradford County convenience store robbery
BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. -- Bradford County Sheriff's deputies arrested two people in connection with a convenience store robbery.
The robbery happened just before 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the Kangaroo Store on State Road 231 in Brooker.
Sheriff's deputies said 25-year-old Michael Jay James entered the store wearing a mask and hoodie. James was also holding a gun. Deputies said 24-year-old Ashley Rae Baer remained in the car with the engine running.
Sheriff's deputies said James demanded money and received an unknown amount of cash and cigarettes before escaping.
Witnesses to the robbery followed a fleeing car and told police dispatch where it was heading. Deputies later arrived to a scene on Dedan Loop and found the car being driven by Baer. Deputies took James and Baer into custody.
Detectives investigating the robbery questioned Baer and James. Detectives said that during the questioning James confessed, saying he robbed the store to feed his drug habit.
Both Baer and James were booked into the Bradford County Jail. They face charges of robbery with a firearm and assault with intent to commit a felony.
