LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Lake City is also suffering from severe flooding.
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office sent in some pictures that show several homes under water along Dyal Road. The flooding also swallowed a car.
The photos also show the resolve of the community, as some citizens stepped to help rescue a man who stalled out after driving onto flooded County Road 240.
Columbia County is sandwiched between two swollen rivers right now. The Suwannee River to the north, and the Santa Fe river to the south. The Suwannee River crested at 85.2 feet this afternoon in White Springs, a few feet short of the record set in 1973 of 88.53 feet. The flood stage in White Springs is 77 feet.
The Santa Fe River is at 25.1 feet right now in Fort White with flood stage at 24 feet. The river is expected to crest Saturday at 31 feet.
A shelter for residents displaced by flooding and damage to homes remains open at Richardson Middle School in Lake City.
Columbia County had 31 inches of rain in the past week.
