JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida has announced their plans to advance the application deadline for transfer students for the Fall 2008 semester for undergraduate and post baccalaureate students six weeks, now making the deadline this Friday, May 2.

The school attributes the rushed deadline to serious budgetary issues and an increased demand for admission to the school.

In addition, the school says it will defer making all admission decisions for the Spring 2009 until early in the fall semester.

The school posted the following on their Web site:

We recognize that these changes will impact the UNF campus and the communities we serve. On behalf of the faculty and staff at the University of North Florida, thank you for your understanding of and patience with the actions we have had to take in response to the extraordinary circumstances in which we find ourselves.

FCCJ is now working with UNF to try and give students more time. In a statement, FCCJ says they are in talks with UNF President John Delaney to extend the deadline for transfer students, and they hope to have an answer Wednesday morning.

FCCJ's main complaint is that students won't have their transcripts ready by Friday, but UNF is accepting applications from FCCJ students with their current transcripts.
