JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- It was the surprise of a lifetime.

Our cameras were rolling when Monroe Tanner found out she's getting a big boost in financial help.

Two days ago, it was a completely different scenario. She was barely able to speak as she told us about her heart attacks, surgeries and artificial heart.

"I want everyone to know this is unbelievable that they came together to do this," she said.

When local doctors told Monroe there wasn't much they could do...The Allied Veterans Center didn't give up. Employees teamed up with a friend to secure treatment at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston...which is known for heart transplants.

Only thing Monroe and her husband didn't have-- airfare. Jacksonville Internet Centers heard they're story and felt they had to do something.

"I can maintain the house for the boys. They can still go to school and take care of things like normal. Then, I can be there did her and see her through some of the hard times," husband David Tanner said.

The Tanners now have enough to get up to Boston, fly their 2 kids back and forth for at least 4 months...AND catch up on bills. The tears were evidence of a grateful heart...and for the first time in a long time, a hopeful one.

"We thank everybody for their prayers and their help and support. Like I said, I hope I meet everyone one day and thank them in person," David said.

Now that the funds are there, David and Monroe will hit the ground right away. They're scheduled to fly up to Boston this Sunday.

If you'd like to donate to Monroe's long-term health care, you can do so at Vystar Credit Union.
