GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. -- Dash cam video from the Glynn County Police Department documents one wild pursuit.
In it, you see a small dark car travels at high pace and then suddenly crashes.
"For some unknown reason, she just runs into the back of the ambulance," Police Chief Matt Doering said.
Doering says it all started about 12:45 Tuesday morning.
One of his officers noticed a car not moving at a stop sign on Perryline Road.
He went over to shine a flashlight inside, noticed a woman slumped, watched her wake up and take off. She got up to 90 and 100 miles per hour down Spur 25 before the dramatic ending you see on the video. She and her two male passengers were killed.
Pursuit is not unusual. What makes this one so unusual was that she ran into the back of an ambulance when she didn't have to," Doering said.
By that, the Chief means there was no one else on the road and the left hand lane was open to pass the ambulance. At the time, that ambulance was transporting a patient from Savannah to St. Simons Island. The patient and one paramedic had minor injuries and there was some damage to the truck.
Doering says the woman behind the wheel had an extensive history of traffic violations with the county and has been arrested several times for drunken driving and drugs. That morning, police say, vodka and gin bottles were found in the car along with marijuana.
The chief isn't sure if those things had something to do with her flee but he does know some details will remain a mystery.
"A lot of the time, you're just going to have questions that you never get the answers to," he said.
According to the Glynn County Police Department, they average one pursuit a month. The officer in this case faces no legal trouble. The investigation will conclude once the autopsy and toxicology results come back.
