JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Action News is learning more about the chaos that ensued after a deadly shooting inside a west side Applebee's.

The sound of gunshots Sunday night shocked nearby witnesses, including Heather King. She works at the restaurant across the street from the Applebee's on Lane Avenue. She said she stepped outside to give her customers their check and that's when she heard it.

"I heard pow, pow, pow. It was really loud," said King.

King said what she heard next keeps replaying in her head.

"I heard a bunch of people screaming over there and then you see a crowd of people come out the side door," she said.

Small children were among the more than 30 witnesses she said fled the restaurant.

Police said minutes later, the suspect, Sheridan Veney, was arrested for allegedly shooting his wife Lisa to death in front of their daughter, Sierra Veney, who just made a surprise return home from the military for the holidays.

"It's sad to lose someone like that in front of you. She's going to be scarred for life seeing that," said King.
