Woman found unresponsive in home with baby
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office are trying to determine what led up to the death of a local mother.
Police responded to a welfare check at a home in the 5600 block of W. Chirping Way in the Westside.
Sgt. Sean Coursey told Action News friends of the woman forced their way inside the home and found a 22-year-old woman unresponsive on the bathroom floor. The woman's 18-month-old boy was with her.
Fire and Rescue workers were able to revive the woman for a short time but she later died at a local hospital.
Police say the boy is not hurt. They say he was hungry when they found him and may have been left unattended for 24-48 hours.
Sgt. Coursey says police found evidence inside the home that lead them to suspect possible foul play. He would not elaborate any further on the evidence.
Neighbors told police that the woman and her child had only been living there for a few weeks.
