ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Georgia did very well, but Florida failed to get top score.

In the 10th Annual Roadmap of State Highway Safety Laws, each state was graded on a number of criteria and given a green, yellow or red rating.

Green was defined as "State is significantly advanced toward adoption of all Advocates’ recommended highway safety laws."

Yellow means "State is advancing but has numerous gaps in its highway safety laws."

Red is "State falls dangerously behind in adoption of key laws."

Florida rated a yellow. Georgia rated green.

The report says meeting the safety criteria will have several benefits including preventable deaths and injuries will be reduced, medical and work loss costs associated with crashes will be saved and states will reap financial benefits because they will qualify for federal grants.
