Gas prices look good for holiday travel

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- According to AAA, the national average price of gasoline has dropped to just under $3.25 a gallon.

That's the lowest average in almost two years. Good news for 84.4 million Americans planning to hit the roads when the holiday period officially gets underway on Saturday.

They also said the average price of gas has dropped every day in December for a total of 15.4 cents a gallon so far for the month, according to the latest statistics from AAA. That's a 4.5% drop in less than three weeks. Since mid-September, the national average price has declined 62.3 cents a gallon (16%.)

Gas prices are expected to drop through the rest of the month and could dip to an average of $3.20 a gallon.

The lowest in the country is Missouri at $2.95 per gallon, the highest is Hawaii at $3.97.

Here in the greater Jacksonville area, $3.09 is the lowest at Flash Foods, RaceTrac and Murphy USA in Middleburg and the Kangaroo of FL-207 & FL-312 in St. Augustine. Sam's Club off Beach Boulevard and the one off Busch Dr. are at $3.10. And the Hess of Argyle Forest Boulevard near Old Middleburg Road is at $3.11.
