MAYPORT, Fla. -- There is good news for supporters of the St. Johns River Ferry.

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville City Council approved $200,000 to help keep the ferry operating another year. Only Councilmember Stephen Joost was opposed.

JAXPORT recently handed over management of Ferry operations to a special committee, along with $200,000, but that committee has estimated it will take $600,000 to keep the ferry running.

Last weekend a festival was held in Mayport for the community to donate. Combined with the money City Council has now promised, the committee is much closer to their fundraising goal.
