Shrimp Festival bringing in big bucks to Fernandina
FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- In one weekend the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival generates nearly $17 million. About half of that comes from out-of-county visitors to the island.
Fernandina is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the festival this weekend.
It is free, but there will be plenty of shrimp available for purchase, and the Palace Saloon is expecting to sell about 10,000 servings of Pirate's Punch this weekend.
The Shrimp Festival accounts for 10 percent of the saloon's annual income.
Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival is Friday through Sunday.
