Texting while driving, dangerous but not illegal
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Numerous attempts to make texting while driving illegal in the state of Florida have been denied.
At the same time, phone companies have been donating millions to Florida government. But is it a coincidence? Between AT&T and Verizon nearly $10 million have been given to lobbying and another million and a half in election donations.
But both companies claim they support the bill to ban texting while driving.
AT&T and Verizon both issued statements saying they support legislation to ban texting and emailing while driving.
Supporters of the law are hoping recent changes in leadership in Tallahassee will get the bill pushed through.
"I'm surprised it's not illegal here yet," Shanon Pelage said. She's a mother who is very concerned about distracted driving.
