MAYPORT, Fla. -- Sailors on board the USS Gettysburg were supposed to deploy Friday, but they have been told it's not going to happen.
Budget cuts have affected our military and civilian employees right here in Jacksonville. Action News was told there will be civilian furloughs and they have already been impacted by a hiring freeze.
We talked to one woman Thursday who was planning a going away party for her roommate until she got the news. Lori Shrader said her roommate didn't know a lot of details, just that the deployment won't happen Friday.
No deployment worries her in terms of international security.
"We're scared because they're staying not shipping out to protect us. They're the Navy."
