If you've been involved in an auto accident, you can rent a vehicle to use while repairs are made to your car. In this case, the liable party's insurance company covers the expenses of the rental car. This includes basic rental rates and any additional charges based on mileage, which may apply. You're entitled to a vehicle of equivalent size and standard to your own, however, sometimes an insurance company involved may require you to drive a less-expensive, smaller vehicle, or cover the rental costs for only a certain period of time. If this is the case, an attorney can assist you in presenting your rightful claim to the liable insurance company. If you're involved in an accident while driving a rented vehicle, you're usually covered by your own insurance policy. Some rental companies offer more coverage for an additional fee, so you should ask about any deductibles or co-payment conditions when you're renting the vehicle. This additional coverage may not be included in the compensation you're entitled to from the insurance company paying for your rental car. Most auto rental companies require you to present a major credit card in order to rent a vehicle. Check the terms and conditions that pertain to any liability on your part if you should be involved in an accident while driving your rental car.
