BAKER COUNTY, Fla. --The St. Marys River started to fill up, and that forced out people from more than 50 homes along the river.
The Baker County Sheriff's Office had to rescue some homeowners by boat. The river is 300 feet beyond its banks.
"The river came up so fast overnight," gasped Lisa Hysler. "I lost my car and everything."
Almost everything. Hysler passed her two tiny Chihuahua's to rescuers before climbing aboard the boat.
"I don't know how they'll do on the boat."
Hysler is grateful to be on higher ground, but is crushed that her home is beyond repair.
"I've been living here for 11 years but it's actually the first time I lost something," she said.
Hysler and her husband are trying to make arrangements to stay with family members just outside of town, otherwise they'll head over to the shelter that's been set up at Macclenny Elementary School.
