JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad is responding to a call at the intersection of Shadow Creek Road and Glenn Hollow Drive.
Action News has crews on the scene in North Jacksonville. Police just spoke with our crew. Lt. Jimmy Ricks with JSO says a suspicious device was found near a retention pond. Police say a neighbor just reported it this morning, but police think it had been there since Friday.
Police say the retention pond was in the backyard of many homes in the area. Twenty-One houses were considered to be close enough to be considered threatened by the device. Police say about half of those homes were evacuated.
Police say nine students have been unable to go to school, because of the lockdown. Their schools have been notified.
No injuries are being reported at this time.
Police closed roads in the area shortly before 7 a.m. as they continued their investigation.
