JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The father of murder victim Cherish Perrywinkle is thanking the Jacksonville community for all of its support.
Billy James Jarreau released this statement through his attorney, Gerald Wilkerson:
"No words can describe how I feel right now. At this time, nothing makes sense. I am in shock and disbelief that my precious Cherish is gone. I would like to say thank you to those who have sent thoughts and prayers my way over the last couple of days. The support from those I don't even know here in Jacksonville has been overwhelming - thank you. Over the next couple of days, we will honor Cherish with a memorial service and a funeral. I ask that everyone please take a moment to remember and honor my little girl during this time. My wife and I are here paying tribute to Cherish so we ask that the media please respect my family's privacy during this difficult journey. "
Cherish will be buried Friday at 2 p.m. at Paxon Revival Center Church, at 5461 Commonwealth Ave. She will be buried at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery at 7242 Normandy Blvd.
There will be a viewing on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the same church.
Donald J. Smith is charged with Cherish's kidnapping and murder.
Police say he lured her from a Walmart on Lem Turner Road last Friday night, killed her, and dumped her body behind a church on Broward Road.
Smith was arrested Saturday morning.
