BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — City officials and residents of Brunswick are coming together to discuss crime two weeks after someone shot and killed a baby on a residential street in broad daylight.
Brunswick's mayor and city commissioners were scheduled to host the public meeting Thursday night. Chiefs for the city and Glynn County police departments were also scheduled to attend.
Residents of the small port city on the Georgia coast were stunned when 13-month-old Antonio Santiago was fatally shot as his mother pushed the boy in his stroller a few blocks from their apartment. The child's mother, Sherry West, was wounded by a bullet.
Police say robbery was the motive. They have charged 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins with being the gunman and 15-year-old Dominique Lang as an accomplice. Both are charged with murder.
