JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The father of a Jacksonville teen shot and killed at a Southside gas station tells Action News he hopes the man accused of taking his son's life will spare his family the pain of a lengthy trial.
Ronald Davis says the three teens who were with his son Jordan on Friday are scarred for life after watching the 17-year-old die in their arms.
Michael Dunn, 45, is accused of firing multiple shots at the SUV the boys were in on Friday, after a confrontation over the volume of their music.
Dunn pleaded not guilty Monday in Brevard County, where he turned himself over to police. His lawyer says the facts will exonerate her client.
"What we know is that once all the facts come out, what really happened is made known, that it will be very clear that Mr. Dunn acted responsibly and as any responsible firearms owner would have acted under these same circumstances," said Robin Lemonidis.
Ron Davis says his family and son's friends have already been through enough and he hopes Dunn will admit his wrongdoing.
"Don't drag this through a court system and don't drag this through a trial. We want you to man up and say, 'I did something and now I must pay for it,' because that's what you did," said Davis. "This should not have happened and I believe when [Dunn] thinks about it, he'll come to his senses that he shouldn't have done what he did. I believe that justice will be served."
A memorial for Jordan Davis is scheduled for Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home on San Jose Boulevard in Mandarin. Everyone is welcome to pay their respects.
The funeral is Saturday in Powder Springs, Georgia. Jordan will be buried in Marietta.
