MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- Firefighters in Marion County said they were watching for hot spots Monday morning to make sure a wildfire does not flare up again.

Crews said the 1,900-acre fire destroyed at least 24 structures, including homes, trailers and hunting camps.

The fire started on Saturday in the Ocala National Forest, and officials said a stiff wind helped fan the flames.

State Road 19 was closed due to heavy smoke in the area, but the road has since reopened.

“I feel bad for all the people who are affected by it,” said driver Tommy Cochrane.

Some families forced from their homes are staying in hotel rooms.
