NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- A 3,400-pound Great White shark was tracked off the coast of Fernandina Beach on Thursday morning.
The 16-foot female Great White, named Mary Lee, is currently swimming off the coast of Nassau County.
In September, biologists tagged the shark off the coast of Cape Cod, Mass. Since then, Mary Lee has slowly been making her way down the east coast.
The tracker is attached to the shark's dorsal fin and every time the fin comes out of the water, an alert goes off on an
online shark tracker.
On Wednesday, Mary Lee was tracked in eight different locations off the coast of Brunswick, Ga.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration biologist, Dr. John Carlson, says it is common to see Great Whites off our coast in the winter because they are migrating to warmer waters.
Dr. Carlson also says the sharks pose no immediate threat to humans but to use caution like you would any other wild animal.
