JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office suspects foul play after a 2-year-old girl stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest Saturday morning.
According to Sgt. Jay Farhat, around 9:25 a.m., police units were dispatched to an apartment subdivision called Casa Terra at 9645 Baymeadows Road.
The toddler was transferred to Wolfson Children's Hospital. Farhat said she is hooked up to a machine that is helping her breathe.
"There is no visible sign of trauma that we can tell, however, 2-year-olds don't just stop breathing so we need to have our due diligence," said Farhat.
Neighbor David Osteen said he was surprised to see all the police activity.
"They're pretty quiet from what I know of. Usually every morning on a schedule, a regular schedule, he walks his kid and his dog around," said Osteen.
According to investigators, the child has no previous medical history.
The toddler's parents and the mother's boyfriend are being interviewed by detectives.
The Florida Department of Children and Families is investigating.
