JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for a man who fired shots in the direction of a vehicle with children inside, wounding one adult.
According to Officer Matthew Clements, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Crystal Street, about a block south of McCoy Creek Boulevard.
Around 9 p.m., according to JSO, the victim walked into UF Health and Shands Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left hip. Clements said the victim was not very forthcoming as to what happened.
However, a short time later, the victim's girlfriend showed up at the hospital and provided investigators with more information, Clements said. According to the girlfriend, the victim was in the roadway on Crystal Street talking with her and her children, ages 3 and 1.
According to Clements, all three were seated in a vehicle when they were approached by an unknown suspect "who indiscriminately fired multiple rounds in the direction of the gentleman and the vehicle with its three occupants."
The suspect managed to flee the scene. The JSO did not provide a description.
Neither the woman nor the children were harmed. The victim suffered a non-life threatening injury.
