JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two Jacksonville men are in Nevada jail after police say they stole a police car during a traffic stop.
Monday night, troopers with the Nevada Highway Patrol indicated a traffic stop on a gray 2013 Ford Explorer with Florida registration, the vehicle was occupied by four subjects, three male and one female.
The driver and one of the passengers are identified as 29-year-old Manuel Alejandro Rodriguez out of Jacksonville, Fla. and 23-year-old Christian M. Magllano Alzpurua out of Jacksonville, Fla. The other male and the female suspects have not been identified at this time.
The preliminary investigation indicates a third suspect exited the vehicle and stole a patrol car and drove east. Police chased the stolen patrol car and shot out its tires. The suspect then carjacked a citizen and stole their 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. The driver of that car was unharmed.
The suspect lost control of the second stolen car and crashed. He then ran away from the scene and fired shots into the air with a stolen shotgun, before turning the gun on himself. The suspect did not survive his self-inflicted gunshots wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the victim will not be released until the Washoe County Coroner’s Office has positively identified him and the next of kin has been notified. The female suspect’s name will be release as it becomes known.
