ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.-- He's supposed to be looking out for the community's health, but police say he got caught looking into a woman's window.

Dr. John Koppman, a surgeon who practices at U.S. Bariatric at Flagler Hospital, is accused of "peeping" on a young woman at his neighbor's house at Sea Colony.
The 23-year-old victim tells Action News that Koppman was staring at her through a window while she was changing clothes. She told police when Dr. Koppman made eye contact with her, he ran through the bushes. Police caught him down the street shortly afterward.

His colleagues at Flagler Hospital can't believe it. Dr. Robert Marema has had Koppman on his bariatric surgery staff for more than six years. Marema said he never had any concerns with the way Koppman interacts with patients.

"He has an excellent patient-and-physician relationship. He's been a hard worker all the time," said Marema.  "I have received no complaints in the past."

Action News has learned that Koppman has been placed on a leave of absence while the investigation continues.

"We have had an excellent six-plus years of working together and I sincerely hope that everything is found to be not true, but we do have to work through this and see what happens from here," Marema said.

Action News did some digging and found no other blemishes on Koppman's record. He has no previous arrests and no history of medical complaints.
