JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- State prosecutors say an Alachua County man performed surgery and billed Medicaid for it without holding a medical license.
Jorge Manuel Prieto, 42, is charged with practicing medicine without a license and fraud. Investigators say Prieto was working at High Springs Family Clinic. In one instance he performed outpatient dermatological surgery. He then charged Medicaid for reimbursement as if he were a licensed doctor.
Investigators say Prieto did attend medical school in Cuba. Among others charges he's facing 61 counts of Medicaid fraud and 13 counts of practicing without a license. If convicted on all charges Prieto could face up to 380 years in prison.
