Millions of dollars in drugs kept off the streets

MAYPORT, Fla. -- The country is safer thanks to naval operations that recovered a huge amount of cocaine and marijuana over the past six months.

Tuesday, the crew aboard the USS Nicholas off-loaded millions of dollars worth of drugs at Naval Station Mayport.

In all, Operation Martillo seized 7.2 million doses of cocaine and 240 pounds of marijuana.

The USS Nicholas partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard and Law Enforcement Detachment to disrupt six drug rings in the Caribbean Sea, Eastern Atlantic Ocean and Western Pacific Oceans.
