JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville police officer has resigned in the face of charges he solicited a prostitute. Wednesday, the Sheriff's Office announced David Sumlin, 49, turned in a letter of resignation.
Sumlin was arrested Tuesday night after a sting operation. Undersheriff Dwain Senterfitt said a known prostitute agreed to work with JSO on the investigation. He said the woman made contact with Sumlin and he told her he wanted sex. According to JSO, Sumlin and the informant talked about various sex acts and agreed on a price of $20.
Sumlin was arrested when he came into work. He has been with JSO since 2004.
