ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- A beautiful day in Atlantic Beach turned scary for some when a woman claimed she was attacked by a shark.

She was surfing with friends and told witnesses she felt a push by something she couldn't see, and then felt pain in her Achilles tendon.

That's when Kelly Vaughn looked up and saw the woman being pushed to shore by one of Vaughn's friends.

"We walked over and the girl said that a shark bit her. Then she blacked out and couldn't remember how she got back to the beach."

Witnesses say the handful of people who were in the water at the time, all came in to check on the victim, but lifeguards did not keep them from returning to the water.

The woman was given first aid by lifeguards and taken to the hospital for further testing.

Atlantic Beach Lifeguard Captain John Phillips tells Action News her injuries have been attributed to some sort of marine life, but doctors still need to confirm if it was a shark.
