JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The sign at Main Metal Recycling on west Beaver says it buys copper.

According to police reports the business bought a lot from Stacey McClain.

In 2009, police reports show that McClain sold $135,817 worth of copper and lead to Main Metal.

Action News has learned the copper and lead belonged to JEA.

According to a police reports obtained by Action News, JEA says it received a tip back in December that an employee was stealing the material and giving it to McClain to sell.

The police report explains the wiring is from lines that haven't been used in the last 20 to 30 years.

McClain made 24 trips to Main Metal in 2009 with 65,822 lbs of copper and 35,434 lbs of lead.

She is now charged with dealing in stolen property.

JEA says since this is an ongoing investigation, it will not comment on the case.

Main Metal Recycling tells Action News it's not common for one person to sell so much scrap metal, but the business does not want to accused any of it's customers of stealing.

In a statement to Action News, Main Metal Recycling says it "remains committed to working with law enforcement, community leaders and affected business to help stem the problem of materials theft."

Anyone who sells to Main Metal has to be willing to provide a fingerprint and sign a statement saying the materials they are selling rightfully belong to them.
