ST. AUGUSTINE Fla.-- They're right on track with bringing new commuter rail back to the old city.

The Transportation Planning Organization says the first step to connecting St. Augustine to other East Coast commuter rail stops is picking a spot for station.

That's why they're connecting the community with a few options. Tuesday they presented six spots they studied and say are prime locations to put the station.

The locations include an old FEC station near San Marco Ave, vacant land across from the Northeast Fl Regional Airport, Uptown U.S. 1 and old Mission Avenue, Downtown U.S. 1 and Carera St, West St. Augustine and Depot St. and the West St. Augustine Spur Parcel.

"We don't know when Amtrak commuter service may come into play but this just gives us ample time to say what would be a good location if in fact those new transportation lines come," said project manager Fred Jones.

Cathie Barrett lives in the neighborhood across the street from the old FEC site, a prime candidate because the infrastructure already exists there. She says trains can't stop there soon enough.

"If could catch the train right outside my front door it would be perfect," she said.
