JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- The strong cold front the First Alert Weather Center has been tracking for a week will roll through Jacksonville, Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia this afternoon bringing some light rain, a gusty wind shift to the northwest and much colder temperatures.  Winds will become northwest at 15-25 mph with higher gusts and temperatures will quickly fall into the 40s with wind chills in the 30s.  Showers of light rain will accompany the front but amounts will be light averaging a tenth of an inch or less across Southeast Georgia and barely measurable for most of Northeast Florida.  Skies will clear tonight with gusty northwest winds sending wind chills into the 20s as air temperatures fall into the 20s well inland...near 30 close to I-95....and the mid 30s near the coast resulting in a widespread inland freeze.  After a sunny but cold Sunday with highs in the 50s, a widespread frost and freeze will occur Sunday night with lows at or below freezing across virtually all of Jacksonville, Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia.  If you're traveling, snow will occur across much of S. & N. Carolina through tonight making for dangerous driving conditions on I-95 north of Savannah and on I-26 and other nearby highways and interstates.  During this cold wave, remember to check on your neighbors and the elderly and to use extreme caution when using alternative methods to heat your home such as space heaters.  Send First Alert Weather photos ** here **.
