JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Heavy rains and strong winds pounded the entire Jacksonville area as Tropical Storm Debby made her way north Monday morning.
Areas of the Westside, Northside, Mandarin, Southside, Downtown and Riverside experienced standing water on roadways as deep as three to four feet.
"There was bad water on the roads," said Larry Thompson of his drive into work through the north and west sides of town. "If you aren't paying attention to what you're doing, it'll just pull you away."
Deep waters did strand drivers near Hogan's Creek, which flooded multiple streets downtown and made it nearly impossible to navigate the southern tip of Springfield.
"It's blocked off here and at that block and that block," said Thomas Tanner. Tanner tried to make his way to the senior center on foot during a break in the rains mid-morning, but worried he wouldn't make it before the skies opened up again.
"It was already bad here, and this storm just made it worse."
