UNF student dies in New Year's Day crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a fatal crash that occurred on the Southside early Tuesday morning.

Sean Franke, 20, was driving his pickup truck westbound on Beach Boulevard when he went off the road and hit a post near Kernan Boulevard.

There were three passengers in the car with Franke. Dara Michelle Kusiv, a 20-year-old female from Longwood, Fla., was killed in the crash.

Franke, Samantha Kasten, 19, and Jacob Materia,19, were taken to UF & Shands with serious injuries.

It is unknown at this time is alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges against Franke are pending further investigation.
