The Better Business Bureau has logged dozens of complaints in the past year dealing with faulty service and billing issues at Motormaxx on Atlantic Boulevard on Jacksonville's Southside.
The BBB sent an alert message to Action News asking us to warn drivers about this business.
The warning states:
"BBB Serving Northeast Florida & the Southeast Atlantic is warning consumers about a local used car dealer and repair shop Motormaxx, which also does business as Ocean Auto Sales and Easy Auto Repair & Towing, LLC.
The BBB Business Review for this business alerts consumers of their F rating with the BBB. In the past three years (the BBB reporting period) Motormaxx and its various DBA’s have been the subject of 36 complaints, with 25 of those having occurred in the past year. Motormaxx has failed to respond to all 36 complaints processed by the BBB. The majority of the complaints allege “Problems with Product or Service”, with the secondary issues being “Billing or Collection Issues."
Easy Auto Repair and Towing advertises free towing if repairs are performed at its shop without disclosing the diagnostic fees to the consumers up front. Complainants allege that repairs performed on vehicles are faulty or not performed at all. Complainants also allege that Motormaxx/Ocean Auto Sales, LLC are selling used vehicles “As is” that are in desperate need of repairs. When consumers confront the company about vehicles they have purchased the company has not been helpful in offering a solution.
Motormaxx has been operating for nine years without ever getting its license suspended or revoked.
The company told Action News that the complaints are erroneous and issued this statement to Action News: "We at Motormaxx are dedicated to providing the best in sales and service of automobiles. We have been in business since 2004 and are licensed in auto sales and finance by the state of Florida. Most vehicles we sell come with a warranty. However some are not and are sold as-is. As is vehicles have “as-is” written on a window sticker on the vehicle as well as on the paperwork that is signed at the time of purchase. We are legally required to respond to all complains from the Florida Division of Motor Vehicles. Those complaints are handled in a timely manner and are always brought to compliance. In our 9 years of holding a license we have never had it suspended or reprimanded by the DMV in any way. As the BBB is not a government agency we have not responded to the complaints with them. We will be requesting a meeting with the BBB this week to address each complaint one by one."
