JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- When soldiers come home from war, the battle is not over. In some cases, the struggle just flips to the workforce.
Take Dartell Burrell.
He retired from the Navy two years ago, and is on the hunt for a gig in criminal justice.
"You come back and it's still tough to find jobs. It's like you're on the bottom trying to fight your way up to the top," he said.
Thousands of troops will soon be in Burrell's position. As many as 34,000 of them. President Obama has plans to withdraw half the service members in Afghanistan -- meaning many will have to look for jobs.
We wanted to know if there will be enough to go around. Bobby Siddell with Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition, says vets have a nice advantage.
"They're all about community, their country and they are great workers for the environment," he explained.
Burrell will finish up school in the fall, but is planning now by hitting up job fairs. He hopes every returning soldier seizes the opportunities that are out there.
"Without the proper resources and, maybe knowing someone, pointing in the right direction, it's very tough to find a job," he said.
