Erica Bennett

Erica Bennett is a weekend morning anchor and reporter for Action News Jax.

She started her journalism career as a youngster in Dallas, winning numerous Young Authors Contests and showcasing her charisma as an actress on stage.

After high school, she went off to the Midwest and graduated with a major in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Sociology from the University of Missouri. From there, she anchored and reported for KOMU-TV, then spent two years at KTAL in Shreveport, La.

While in the Bayou State, Erica covered Hurricanes Gustav and Isaac and reported on the front lines of a national police-involved shooting in the town of Homer. Despite it bringing out Reverend Al Sharpton, the U.S. Justice Department and several national outlets, the community trusted her with a lot of the first-hand tips and information.

Erica traded in crawfish for beaches and Action News Jacksonville in 2010. The kind faces, great stories and heartfelt people in the community are why she returned after leaving briefly in 2013. Since coming back, she’s become a mentor to 10 girls at Lakeshore Middle School, received an Emmy nomination for spot news in weather team coverage, and become the Weekend Morning Anchor of a thriving newscast.

She’s also gotten a chance to go on three mission trips out of the country with her church. In Costa Rica, she helped feed an entire village and take care of the Sunday school kids at their sister congregation. In the Dominican Republic, her team threw a Christmas party at a special-needs orphanage, washed children’s hair in a Haitian village and visited widows.

Erica is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Missouri Alumni Association. She loves sports (especially the Dallas Cowboys!), traveling and hanging with loved ones. You can also find her taking lots of naps, trying new food spots and watching HGTV.

Erica’s favorite place in Jacksonville is the Avondale neighborhood, complete with Spanish moss trees, quaint restaurants and a real family-friendly vibe. She is a newlywed (T.J.) and is looking forward to where life takes them next.
