ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Four Orange County deputies had to be taken to the hospital after they came in contact with an unknown chemical during an encounter with a man on a bicycle.
Investigators told WFTV Channel 9 shortly after the deputies confronted a man about 10 p.m. Thursday on Powers Drive and Silver Star Road, something exploded in his backpack.
The deputies were sprayed in the faces by the chemicals and had to be hosed down before being taken to a local hospital, authorities said. They're expected to be OK, but authorities said they still don't know what the chemicals were.
"Mostly respiratory problems, vomiting also -- making sure they were in a safe condition to go to the hospital," one medic told Channel 9.
There's a possibility the chemicals were possibly intended to manufacture meth, but that has not been confirmed.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
