SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -- During a theft from a Lake Mary Home Depot, police said an alert citizen realized something was going on and sprang into action.
Chopper video shows deputies on the trail of theft suspects.
Police say three people, Jessica Coyle, Richard Johnson and Carlos Daponte, stole around $1,500 worth of merchandise, took and ran down an innocent bystander as they were getting away.
Little did they know they were being watched by a good Samaritan.
"We're talking about someone who was very alert and very aware of what was going on, and he did everything he could do to make sure this crime didn't go unpunished." Lake Mary police Public information officer Zach Hudson said.
Police said the good Samaritan saw the suspects walking out of those doors and thought something didn't seem quite right.
So he hopped into his car and tried to block them in, but the suspects were able to go around him.
The good Samaritan grabbed his phone and followed them and gave police a play by play of what was going on.
The man continued following the suspects until the Sheriff's Office was able to catch up with them using their chopper.
Deputies pulled over the white van the suspects were riding in and arrested them.
Police say without the witness, the suspect might have gotten away.
