ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Two brothers are facing murder charges for a fatal shooting along a busy street in Altamonte Springs Monday afternoon.

Police said Christopher Rodriguez and Manual Rodriguez fired several rounds when they shot and killed 22-year-old Tevin Davis as he was walking in front of a Best Buy with a friend.

Police found 10 bullet shells in the road and one bullet lodged in a white van in the parking lot. They said Davis’ body was lying in the outside westbound lane of State Road 436.

Police said with that many bullets flying through the air in the busy shopping center, the scene could have been much worse.

“They were firing across 436, and those bullets were stray bullets,” said Robert Pelton with the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

When police responded to the scene, witnesses, including the victim’s friend who was not hurt, told them the Rodriguez brothers pulled up in a tan Chevy, exchanged words with the victim and started firing.

A brief chase ensued and officers eventually forced the Chevy off the road on State Road 434 in front of South Seminole Hospital. Instead of giving up, the suspects tried to run.

Witnesses told WFTV Channel 9’s Mark Joyella one of the brothers tried to hide in a ditch but they were caught quickly.

Both were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, before being booked into the Seminole County Jail.

Police said the suspects and the victims knew each other, but it’s still unclear why the shooters targeted Davis.

The scene had State Road 436 blocked off in both directions for five hours while police investigated.
