Hammond, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Southeastern Louisiana University agreed to a contract extension with football coach Ron Roberts through the 2016 season, the Southland Conference university announced Thursday.

In his second season at Southeastern, Roberts has the 16th-ranked Lions in first place in the Southland with a 7-2 overall record and a 4-0 conference mark.

"Getting Ron a contract extension was a high priority for our athletic program," athletic director Jay Artigues said. "He is a proven head coach and has demonstrated his skills in the short time he has been at Southeastern. Ron and his entire staff are huge assets to the university and excellent mentors for our student-athletes."

In his first season at Southeastern last year, Roberts guided the Lions to a 5-6 record and their most conference wins (five) since 1978, when the program was a part of the Division II Gulf South Conference.

Artigues said the contract extension is subject to approval by the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.
