Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Panthers have placed safety Haruki Nakamura on injured reserve, ending his season.

The fifth-year defensive back sustained a groin injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 30-20 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

In 2012, his first year as a starter, Nakamura has totaled 54 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defensed in 13 games.

Carolina promoted safety Anderson Russell from the practice squad to fill the roster spot.
