JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Signing day is quickly approaching. We’re just over a week away and already some major recruiting services are predicting big things for local college football teams.  ESPN ranks Florida State, Florida, and Georgia’s recruiting classes two through four in the nation. Those rankings will stay true if all of their current commits end up signing letters of intent to go to their respective schools.

However, signing day has had some surprises in recent years. A great example of this was last year, when most experts penciled in Menendez’s Tony Steward, one of the nations top recruits, to Florida State’s roster. Steward pulled the old hat switch-a-roo when he picked up the purple and orange lid of Clemson instead of the garnet and gold.

These current rankings are pretty arbitrary, especially with teenage kids. When I was 18 I couldn’t decide which shirt to wear to school, let alone decide which institution would help me become the best football player possible. On signing day, expect the unexpected. You can bet that one of those five-star recruits headed to Tallahassee, Gainesville or Athens will be purchasing a hat from a different campus bookstore.
