Gators Jenkins leaving for NFL Draft

Gainesville, Fla.-University of Florida junior linebacker Jelani Jenkins (Olney, Md.) announced on Monday that he has decided to forego his final year of eligibility with the Gators and declare for the 2013 NFL Draft. Jenkins played in 36 games at UF, including 31 starts, and totaled 182 tackles, 16.5 tackles-for-loss, 6.0 sacks and three interceptions.

"Jelani informed me that he wishes to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL," said Florida head coach Will Muschamp. "We wish him the best of luck and encourage him to return to Florida and complete his degree."

Hampered by injuries this season, Jenkins played in nine and made eight starts. He had 29 tackles with 5 tackles for a loss of 25 yards. He had a pair of sacks for 19 yards, two quarterback hurries and came through with a key interception in the second quarter during the 37-26 victory at No. 10 Florida State. Jenkins also returned a blocked punt 36 yards for a touchdown with :02 remaining to defeat Louisiana.
