High School bowl games kick off Postseason Schedule
With the High School Football playoffs set to begin on Friday, a handful of local teams not in the postseason wrapped up play with one final game. Teams with a winning record that didn't qualify for the playoffs had the opportunity to play in bowl games and six area teams did just that.
In the North Florida Bowl the Menendez Falcons tied the school record with an 8-3 campaign by beating Escambia (Pensacola) 34-28. The Falcons limited Escambia's Danikeei Hollowell, the state's leading rusher, and turned to Trevon Bryant for five touchdowns on the ground. Meanwhile Yulee won at home over Hilliard 35-6, Bishop Snyder capped off a 9-1 season by beating Cedar Creek Christian 36-20 and St. Johns Country Day lost to Rocky Bayou Christian 26-19.
On Friday night 23 local squads begin their quest for a state championship including some marquee matchups like Columbia vs. St. Augustine and Palatka vs. Bishop Kenny. For the complete rundown be sure to watch the Friday Night Blitz on Fox 30 at 10:30 pm and CBs 47 at 11:15 pm.
