JACKSONVILLE - Shahid Khan has arrived. The new owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars was introduced - yet again - on Friday afternoon.
Khan and his wife Ann, The Weavers, Mayor Alvin Brown and many other folks involved in the Jaguars organization listened to an entertaining press conference featuring the new owner of the Jags.
"We've always wanted to own an NFL franchise," Khan said. "Now we can cross that off our bucket list and put winning a Super Bowl Championship at the top."
Khan talked again about his commitment to the city of Jacksonville and growing its fan base.
"This is going to be the hottest ticket in the NFL," Khan said holding up a Jags ticket.
The NFL's first minority owner discussed a plan that includes making the Jaguars an international team. He knows Jags fans have had a "move-a-phobia" complex recently but thinks growing the franchise globally could be a huge advantage. The possibility of playing games in London or abroad does exist.
Khan discussed hiring a new coach as soon as possible. He did state that putting a guy in charge of coaching and player personnel moves is not a recipe for success. That means while the Jags will hire a coach, they probably won't be hiring a team president.
"I hired thousands of people," Khan said referring to his billion dollar company. "We need to bring in a coach we like and trust and who's going to win."
Khan made the folks in the Touchdown Club at Everbank Field laugh when he elaborated on those thoughts.
"You don't want a guy that you like and trust, but doesn't win," said Khan. "You don't want a guy that you despise and wins. You want the right person."
So far it seems like Wayne Weaver found the right person to take over the ownership of the Jaguars.
