PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - It's hard to believe the way the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass played on Sunday of the 2013 THE PLAYERS Championship that we had almost ten inches of rain on the grounds a week earlier.
The Stadium Course's conditions were benign for most of the week because of the rain, but also because of the lack of wind. Then on Sunday, the winds blew and the greens got crusty and fast enough to keep scoring at bay.
After Roberto Castro set a blistering course record with a 63 to open the tournament, it was a fair assumption that the scoring would be pretty low by week's end. Instead, Tiger Woods 13 under par was right around the normal score we see for a winner at THE PLAYERS Championship. Woods shot 14 under when he won in 2001.
